Apprentice incentives extended and minimum wage increased!
Back in August Rishi Sunak announced in his "Plan for Jobs" that the Government would introduce a new scheme, giving financial incentives to all employers who provide young people with meaningful work experience placements, in a bid to 'kickstart' the nation's economy post lockdown.
Well, here we are, post #UKlockdown2 and the scheme has now been extended for a further two months (hurrah!) to March 31st, 2021 (previously January 31st, 2021). Any firm that hires a new young apprentice aged 16 to 24 will receive £2,000 – on top of the existing £1,000 incentive for 16 to 18 year olds (Yes, that means £3,000 for 16-18 year old new apprenticeship hires) – while those that hire new apprentices aged 25 and over can claim £1,500 per apprentice.
What's more, it was also announced that the National Minimum Wage for apprentices will increase in April 2021 from £4.15 to £4.30 per hour.
